2016 has finally arrived and with a new year, the Student Government has a lot of changes they are trying to implement to improve the student experience, and make sure the Student Government successors can transfer quickly and easily. The first big change that the ASOC needs a student vote is the ASOC constitution. The constitution is the rulebook to make sure that the Student Government is managing the Service and Activity fees correctly, as well as outlining how positions are filled and ran. One of the key changes to the document will allow students to run clubs over the summer quarter. This academic year, the Student Government tested working over the summer quarter and found that it allowed for a better understanding of the job. With this successful test, it is our intention to extend operation to clubs during this time period with the added clause.
Voting for this document started back in Dec. Starting Jan. 1, the voting opened up on OrgSync to give another platform, so more students would be able to vote in a way that is convenient for them. If you have logged into a school computer, you may have seen a window prompting you to create an account. Creating your account is easy. To log in you use the same credentials used when logging onto a school computer. Once logged in, you just need to fill out your name, whether you are student or staff, and your student ID. As soon as your profile is completed, you will be directed to the voting page where you will submit your vote. Making sure that your voice is heard is of the utmost importance to your Student Government, which is why the voting period has been extended to Jan. 19.
On Jan. 19 there will also be an open forum to answer any questions that a student may have. We here at the ASOC invite everyone to come join us in the North South Conference room to voice either your concerns or opinions, or if you simply want to say hi. The open forum will be happening after our Executive Council meeting starting at 1:00 p.m. There will be light refreshments along with Student Government updates, and possibly new clubs being chartered. Come tell us your story here at Olympic College and make a difference at YOUR school; however, if this time does not work for you, our doors are always open in BSC 118. You can also catch one of us out at the ASOC table in the BSC entryway beginning at 11 a.m. and ending at 1 p.m.
