Think back to summer times in the past. Chances are, you have attended a county or state fair at least once or twice. When the rain and general grayness of Washington starts to bring you down, do you long for those hot summer days spent riding crazy rides, seeing all sorts of farm animals and devouring deep-fried fair food?

If you do, then plan on taking a trip to the Puyallup Spring Fair next year. The Spring Fair is held annually in the middle of April at the Washington State Fairgrounds in Puyallup, and contains all sorts of attractions. There is something for everyone at the fair, even for our Olympian staff.

For the adrenaline junkies, there is a demolition derby, monster truck shows and of course, heart pounding rides such as the twenty-story tall Extreme Scream.

Animal lovers can watch hard-working 4-H and FFA members show their animals at the Northwest Jr. Livestock Show, see adorable racing pigs and be amazed by the grace of the dancing “charro” horses.

Foodies can spend their time sampling cotton candy, funnel cakes, multiple types of fried food, and Fisher fair scones, a staple at all fairs in Washington State. There is also a lumberjack show, outdoor expo, carnival games, and many other things to do there. The Puyallup Spring Fair is a fantastic fair to help you shake off the winter blues and get excited for warmer weather.

During the summer there will be many other fairs in the area, such as the Kitsap Fair and Stampede, August 24-28, and the Washington State Fair in Puyallup from September 2-25.

If you want to have a mini fair experience here at Olympic College, OC Rec will be hosting their annual Student Appreciation Day on Wednesday, May 18th from 11:00 a.m. until 2:00 p.m.. This year’s theme is “State Fair” and it is going to be an entertaining campus event for students to celebrate the end of a successful academic year.
